Madrid, 12 June 2019 - Telefónica Business Solutions, a leading provider of a comprehensive range of communication solutions for the B2B market, launches the Virtual Firewall service, a virtualized network service based on Fortinet's Next Generation Firewall.
The Virtual Firewall allows customers to access an advanced security infrastructure in the Telefónica network offering end-to-end protection for their communications, e.g. Guaranteeing the connectivity privacy of communications between a customer’s private networks and their Cloud providers. Uniquely the service can be managed in an agile manner via a dedicated web portal or via APIs and deployed in a virtualized environment. Having a strong and robust security infrastructure is essential for the future of any company. Telefónica’s complete portfolio combines Communications, Cloud and Security (New Digital Core) in a single integrated solution, forming the future-ready basis of an enterprise’s Digital Transformation. Telefónica is working on the creation of a Virtual Network Functions Market place; this multi-vendor open ecosystem will include functions that can be contracted and deployed in real time, both from the network and at the client's facilities, completely integrated within a SD-WAN service and end-to-end connectivity services. The Virtual Firewall service forms part of this new approach and becomes a key part of the virtual services ecosystem. Initially this service has been launched in Telefónica’s B2B markets. "We have to transform our traditional services to give our customers the agility and flexibility they are demanding, enabling APIs that allow automation and access to the best range of virtualized services," said Hugo de los Santos, Director of Products and Services, Telefónica Business Solutions. "Telefónica is a reference partner for Fortinet. Together we provide Spanish companies with multiple security solutions, both for their corporate and telecommunications networks. We also collaborate in managed services and specifically, security solutions offered to Telefónica’s customers. The Virtual Firewall service (firewall on the network) is an example of how Fortinet virtualized security solutions, in combination with Telco operator infrastructure, meet the security requirements of the digital transformation for multinational companies", commented Yann Pradelle, Fortinet Vice President Europe.
Enterprise security is an important area of growth within the new SD-WAN digital networks, particularly as they create private networks combining both public and private access, which has the potential to increase the exposure to security attacks.
Due to the complexity and increasingly professionalized nature of security risks, companies need to safeguard their day-to-day activity in cyberspace, protecting the main vectors of attack including email and web browsing, whilst providing protection to internal networks and databases. Companies around the world suffer on average, 3.4 security incidents a year, which can result in very high direct and indirect economic losses. On average, Spanish companies are forced to stop their operations 17 hours a year as a result of cyber-attacks.
